From the beginning…
Brady Knippa is a professional drummer and percussionist from Austin, Texas, currently touring with Dayglow.
Armed only with a pair of chopsticks, pots and pans, and a VHS copy of Dave Weckl’s 1988 classic Back to Basics, Brady began his musical journey at age 4. Those early, raucous years paved the way for a zealous pursuit of all things rhythmic through middle school, high school, and college bands.
Graduating from The University of Texas with a BA in Music/Percussion (c. 2019), Brady was a member of the Longhorn marching band, UT percussion ensemble, and symphony band before diving deeper into the drum kit. Once his symphonic chapter had come to a close, Brady hit the Austin music circuit with Big Wy’s Brass Band, Nané, and eventually Dayglow, playing over 400 shows in the span of just a few years.
Notable performances include the 2016 Guatemala International Jazz Festival, 2017 & 2019 Costa Rican International Jazz Festivals, Austin City Limits season 47 opener, Lollapalooza Chicago & South America, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Brady now spends over half the year on the road between touring, festivals, and studio sessions. When he isn’t behind the kit, he enjoys mountaineering and scuba diving through some of Earth’s greatest wonders.
